The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The anticipation around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
