There's little doubt why Arsenal are now numerous fans' preferred choice to secure the Premier League in the current campaign.

Examine their results against West Ham and Crystal Palace in contrast with those identical matches in the previous campaign.

The Gunners have defeated all of them in the current season, but lost 10 points across those games as they fell away in the title race previously.

Defensive Strength

Arsenal's defensive solidity is a key reason why they are appearing strong to finally fulfil their title goal.

They lead the league for unbreached games (6), shots let in (3), shots faced (72), dangerous chances allowed (19) and expected goals against (5.3).

The defensive partnership of Gabriel and William Saliba is potentially the best in the league, with Arsenal keeping a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Dead-Ball Dominance

Their threat from set-pieces is highly documented, but rival sides still find it difficult to stop the Gunners from these chances.

They have registered 11 times from set-pieces in the league, several additional than any other side, with 69% of their goals originating from these situations.

"Arsenal can do a bit of everything now. The whole team has a intimidation presence. People are just afraid of them and it is wonderful to see."

Championship Pedigree

What is especially notable about Arsenal's beginning to the campaign is they have also encountered Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United at opposition grounds and Manchester City at home - and are still leading by four at the top.

While they maintain victories, their traditional rivals are struggling. This marks the premier instance at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The scrutiny was on head coach Mikel Arteta at the outset, having invested around £250m on eight summer acquisitions in quest of that long-awaited first title since 2004.

But the business has so far proven successful in style, with his side one of the most prolific attacks in the league and possessing the tightest defense, despite numerous injuries.

  • Unbreached games in three consecutive Premier League games
  • 385 minutes without letting in a goal
  • Only three goals in 12 games across all competitions

Former players and analysts have characterized Arteta's men as a "juggernaut, looking difficult to stop" with the whole club now operating with confidence and purpose.
